Cheese Straws
8 oz medium
8 oz sharp
1 stick butter
1tsp salt
3/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 cup self rising
1 cup plain
Mix all ingredients by hand. When the stuff stops sticking to your hands it’s mixed well enough. Press onto cookie sheet and cut into 3-4 in straws. Bake 375 for 10 to 12 minutes.
Note: This is the often imitated but never duplicated Lancaster cheese straw recipe. The trick is you need a special extruder piece for your cookie press so that the straws come out the proper thickness. Dad is constantly searching Ebay for these as well as 2 ½ cup freezing jars (for drinking Cheerwine) and low profile tractors as none of these three things are in production anymore, but we have use of them on a daily bases.
